Plan the Perfect Family Friendly Journey to Greater San Diego Area

HomeThings to DoJourneysPlan the Perfect Family Friendly Journey to Greater San Diego Area

The family vacation is an important tradition, one that we at Vacations Rentals by Kimberly will continue to encourage by supplying the idyllic properties for which we are known. Offering comfort, luxury, and style as well as being located in most towns of the greater San Diego area, our homes are designed to be that soft place to land after a long day of family adventures. Today, we want to talk about taking a family friendly journey to the paradise we are fortunate to call our home, providing this guide to all the fun you can experience during your family journey to the Golden State. Sit back, relax, and feel free to take a few notes—or at the very least, bookmark this blog—so you can find it easily once your San Diego adventure begins! Here’s what to expect with a Family Friendly Journey to Greater San Diego Area.

Day 1: Culinary Excursions in Carlsbad

Your family needs fuel to thrive during their California adventures, and although you can easily prepare all the meals you need in your Vacation Rentals by Kimberly retreat, we do encourage you to enjoy at least a few culinary excursions while you are here. Breakfast or lunch at Beach Plum Kitchen (6971 El Camino Real #201) is always a joyous occasion as you sample fresh and locally sourced items on their menu, including a California Benedict (avocado and a roasted jalapeño hollandaise add interest) or carnitas tacos that offer an authentic taste of the Southwest. When the dinner bell rings, your special occasion may be celebrated most wonderfully with a meal at Jeune et Jolie, a Michelin star restaurant located at 2659 State Street featuring French meals prepared with a California twist.

Day 2: Sand Architecture in San Diego

One of beach life’s simplest pleasures is building sandcastles at water’s edge, and San Diego Sand Castles (4306 Ocean View Boulevard) offers a way to take your sandcastle game up a notch or two. Offering classes in sand construction that can be as easy as you need or as challenging as your children can handle, your castles in the sand will definitely show a difference after class lets out!

Day 3: Mini Golf in Del Mar

The sport of golf can be a snooze fest, but for some reason miniature golf is a totally different animal, giving parents and kids common ground when it comes to fun vacation activities. Pelly’s Mini Golf at Del Mar Golf Center, located at 15555 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, offers two themed courses on which to play. Pelly’s Ocean Adventure and Pelly’s Surfin’ Safari are both 18-hole courses with water themes that include frolicking dolphins, playful mermaids, and tropical foliage that complete the theme of fun while golfing.

Day 4: Walk on the Wild Side in San Diego

No matter where you are staying in the San Diego area, a visit to the world famous San Diego Zoo is greatly encouraged. Located at 2920 Zoo Drive, this fantastic zoo is home to more than 12,000 animals spread out over 1200 acres inside Balboa Park and is one of the few zoos in America to keep a giant panda. So large and so fantastical, this is one adventure that may take more than one visit to fully experience.

Day 5: Sweet Treats in Mission Bay

Is there anything that tastes better on a warm summer day than a sweet and frosty ice cream treat shared with our littles? There may be, but none comes to mind, and so we encourage our guests to take a jaunt to the Baked Bear, 4516 Mission Boulevard. Offering an original take on ice cream sandwiches, the owners favorite treat when growing up, the cookies are home baked and the ice cream flavors are created on site. Their Nutella Chocolate Chunk Cookie combined with Butter Brittle Cake ice cream never fails to please.

Day 6: The Building Blocks of Family in Carlsbad

You can’t end a family friendly vacation to the San Diego area without a visit to LEGOLAND, of course, offering a colorful adventure without the pain of stepping on those little bricks in the middle of the night! Located at 1 Legoland Drive, this park offers rides, games, restaurants, an aquarium, and all the miniature bricks your kiddos have ever dreamed about.
